Where Do You Stand Now, João Pedro Rodrigues?

A video diary going back in time in which the Portuguese director speaks frankly about his life and, using archival footage and extracts from the works of Nathaniel Hawthorne and Henry James Thoreau, reflects on his past and on those who experienced it with him. A stream of memories and words that turns into a cultured dissertation on beauty, on the need to contemplate it and on the fragility that is inevitably part of beauty.

Biofilmography

After completing his studies at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema in Lisbon. João Pedro Rodrigues initially worked as assistant to notable directors like Alberto Seixas Santos and Teresa Villaverde. In 1997, he directed Parabéns!, his first short-film. He made his feature film debut with O Fantasma (2000), a bold, original, though, scandalous movie dealing with eroticism and sadomasochist love. Presented at the Venice International film Festival and later at many other International festivals, it attracted heated controversy as well as favourable reviews. The same reception greeted his next film, Two Drifters (2005), shown at the Cannes Film Festival.
