ASIA ARGENTO EXHIBITION

ANTOLOGIA ANALOGICA

TUESDAY 23RD APRIL 2019, 6 p.m. @ NATIONAL MUSEUM OF CINEMA, MOLE ANTONELLIANA

Asia Argento is well known to the general public as an actress and director, but she is less known as a photographer, even though her pictures have been published in major national and international magazines. She inherited her aesthetic sense and her filming and hand retouching techniques from her grandmother, Elda Luxardo, who was a photographer too. Asia Argento's pictures, 35mm negatives and Polaroid photographs, show us part of her world, through portraits, faces, striking images, colours and graphics. 23 photographs, taken by Asia Argento between 2001 and 2004 using 35mm film, will be exhibited along the railings outside the Mole Antonelliana. A striking series of Polaroid photographs, retouched by the artist with colours and materials to obtain a very interesting fusion full of tributes to musicians, actors and artists, will be exhibited in the Museum's main hall. To conclude the exhibition, there will be four photographs taken by Stefano Iachetti, curator of the exhibition. These photographs portray Asia on the set of Misunderstood, a movie she directed in 2013.

The artworks I have completed are the result of the analysis of the character of Querelle and everything that rotated (and still rotates) around him" - Antonio Minerba

STONEWALL INN
Curated by Samuele Piazza

WEDNESDAY 24th APRIL 2019, 6:30 PM @ RECONTEMPORARY, VIA GAUDENZIO FERRARI 12/B, TURIN

A conversation that starts from the analysis of some works by contemporary artists with the aim of developing some suggestions on the legacy of Stonewall, 50 years after the uprisings that gave way to the American homosexual liberation movement. Looking at the café as a safe space to create a community identity, at the different historical narratives and the dynamics of mythologizing events, the discussion wants to question the importance of Stonewall for a generation divided between social networks and new forms of activism. After the presentation, the works will be on display at the Circolo dei lettori in via Bogino 9 in Turin, from 25th to 27th April.
The event is an opportunity to discover Recontemporary, a curatorial project and new independent space for contemporary art created by Iole Pellion di Persano and dedicated to video art with a series of exhibitions, reviews and talks involving artists, collectors and curators of the international scene.
