Borsa Querelle

In the 32nd Lovers Film Festival – Torino LGBTQI Visions a grant has been created

Querelle Grant: with the Turin International Book Fair and TorinoFilmLab

In the 32nd Lovers Film Festival – Torino LGBTQI  Visions, directed by Irene Dionisio and chaired by Giovanni Minerba, an award and a grant have been created starting from this edition, which is taking place from the 15th to the 20th of June at the Multisala Cinema Massimo of the National Cinema Museum.

Querelle Grant.

For the first time, the Festival launches the Querelle Grant for under 40 writers for their original works on LGBTQI themes.

This grant is an homage to two important works for the LGBTQI culture: Querelle de Brest, a novel by Jean Genet published in 1947, and the film of the same name, which is drawn from the book. This was the last movie directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder and was released in 1982.

This initiative is promoted together with the 30th Turin International Book Fair and TorinoFilmLab, because we are convinced that good writing, already at its beginnings, is one the main pillars to aim at a good cinema production.

After being selected by a jury, the winner will be awarded a grant of 3000 euros given by the Turin International Book Fair as a contribution to the adaptation of the work to a screenplay, as well as the certainty of having visibility and meetings with professionals at the 33rd edition of the Lovers Film Festival.

In the jury there will be three representatives of the National Cinema Museum and two representatives of the Turin International Book Fair: Irene Dionisio (director of the 32nd Lovers Film Festival), Savina Neirotti (director of the TorinoFilmLab), Stefano Boni (responsible for the screening programme of the Cinema Massimo), Nicola Lagioia (editorial director of the Turin International Book Fair) and Willy Vaira (writer).

The call  to take part will be launched the 15th of June, the opening day of the Festival, on the website of the Lovers Film Festival. By the 15th of October, interested

authors have to send a draft ( max. 8 pages, font size 12), mostly about LGBTQI characters and themes, for the adaptation to a screenplay.

Moreover, in the dossier there must be also a declaration of intent (max. 4 pages and font size 12) containing director's notes, a motivation letter and the main characters. These documents have to be sent anonymously: there must be no personal data of the author. However, in the dossier, together with the draft, there must be a second sealed envelope containing personal data of the author.

Drafts must be sent to the venue of the Lovers Film Festival – Torino LGBTQI Visions in Via Montebello 15, Torino. You have to write "Borsa Querelle" on the envelope.

Within the 10th of November 2017 a ranking will be published on the festival's website. The five finalists, during TorinoFilmLab (November 2017) will have a pitching with the members of the jury, that will judge the originality of the outlines and the feasibility of the project.

On  the 15th of November 2017 the winner will be announced: he/she will have to produce, within six months from the announcement, the final screenplay starting from the draft sent.

The grant will be given by the Turin International Book Fair in January 2018.

During the 33rd edition of Lovers Film Festival, the winning author– Torino LGBTQI Visions, will have the opportunity – thanks to the festival's staff – to meet different professionals of the audio-visual sector, to discuss the feasibility of his/her script.
