33 Lovers FF from 20th to 24th April 2018

Lovers Film Festival – Turin LGBTQI Visions will be hold from 20th to 24th April 2018, period to which usual visitors of the Festival are accustomed.

In 2017 Lovers Film Festival – Turin LGBTQI Visions, directed by IreneDionisio and chaired by Giovanni Minerba has been presented in a renewed form compared to previous years. The Festival was held in the spirit of a further openness towards the City and of a new collaboration with many important cultural institutions of Turin. It proposed a new format with many OFF events in addition to film screening program which attracted  a total of 23.000 visitors. This was in line with the descending trend of previous years and it shows the need to modify this formula and its critical points. To solve this problem with new solutions, trying to follow new path and to propose alternative projects Lovers Film Festival – Turin LGBTQI Visions 2017 has been able to build new connection within the Region, with institutions and with the community such as the collaboration with Artissima, Salone Internazionale del Libro, Gay Village, UCCA and many others. The high quality of selected films is another good result and three films were presented in preview: The Wound by John Trengove (South Africa / Germany / Netherlands / France), All the Lovers winner –feature film competition, RiChangDuiHua (Small Talk)by Hui-chen Huang (Taiwan, 2016) Real Lovers winner –  documentary competition and Tom of Finland by Dome Karukoski (Finland, 2016) film shown during the opening night. The three have been nominations for the Oscars in their countries.

" the results of the last 10 years obliged us to reflect deeply on Lovers Film Festival in order to understand the best or the possible path to follow" – this is what Laura Milani, President of Turin National Museum of Cinema. "With these changes under way we want to strengthen the spirit of this event which should be a festival for the community. The next edition will follow the vision and the strategies of the museum that will be evaluated over next months and will be implemented starting from 2018.

The network of partnerships and collaborations of this renewed Lovers Film Festival-Laura Milani continues- show how arts are transversal and one of the missions of the museum is to be confronted with different kind of  audiences. Contamination and change are the soul of creativity, they enrich and strenghten. We are already working for next edition, we think that the continuity with past experiences and the LGBTQI community support and Giovanni Minerba's help, will lead us to create a festival that can reach everybody."

"I am really pleased because we started working in advance on this new edition of the festival and because it has been possible to propose the event in spring. We strengthened the innovations of last edition, we have been able to create new international relationships and we have also taken into account all the suggestions and impressions from the community after the first renewed edition of the LGBTQI Film Festival since we want the Festival to remain a place for a continuous dialogue. After a period of listening and debate, we are now working with a strong energy on the new edition which combines a cinema-friendly spirit with a debate on rights and a pop entertainment, ensuring a continuity with the past and an innovative future-looking approach. We have established dates and themes of the festival with the president and founder of the festival Giovanni Minerba and we will keep this collaboration since we share the same guidelines" this is what Irene Dionisio, Lovers director says.

"Changes always imply a reflection. It is necessary to know and learn from past experiences so that we can build our future considering the right opportunities. The path we undertook with the 32nd edition is and shold be a clear message of inclusion, and we all, we will provide the support and the contribution required" Giovanni Minerba, Lovers Presidente concludes.

The spirit of 2018 edition will be the one of a cinema-friendly, militant and pop Festival.

The festival will focus on the issue of LGBTQI rights through Film Competitions and through Special and music events. The director also decided to widen her team by involving two representatives of LGBTQI world while Giovanni Minerba will take care of a section dealing with the story of the Festival.

The awaited godmother of 2018 Festival will be Valeria Golino, one of the icons and excellences of Italian cinea, actress, director and producer.

Another preview of the festival is the prestigious participation of the author Robin Campillo, the last winner of Cannes Gran Prix and winner of the Queer Palm. He will be present with a tribute and a masterclass (with a set number of places) in collaboration with Franck Finance-Madureira President and founder of Cannes Queer Palm.

This year, since the main issue is about Right we will launch a special initiative arose from the collaboration with 13 LGBTQI association during the 32nd edition of the festival. After a debate with these associations – with the support of  il Coordinamento Pride we will choose 7 key – words and a dedicated film will be associated to each word.

The focus will be introduces by an in depth study carried out by Diversity, the association set up by Francesca Vecchioni, about the way media represent LGBTQI people.

To enrich the film program and the militant events of the Festival, in a cinema theatre, we will present a music format in collaboration with the Rome Gay Village and with the major LGBTQI music nights of our city.

Rita Pavone will be the first special guest with a show/talk/concert presented by Pino Strabioli. Other guests of this event will be announced soon.
