Bo McGuire, a young queer director, uses archive VHS footage to compose a love letter to his recently passed away grandmother: the matriarch of a large family in America's deepest South, troubled by the quarrels between a homophobic old aunt and a homosexual uncle fighting over the inheritance. The grotesque, melancholic and ironic portrait of an unconventional family and director's search for identity.

Bo McGuire

Bo McGuire is the queer son of a Waffle House cook and waitress. He was born in Hokes Bluff, Alabama, and was always inspired by Southern icons such as Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire. He studied filmmaking at the New York University. He is one of "Filmmaker Magazine"'s 25 New Faces of Independent Film. His feature documentary debut Socks on Fire, born from his fascination for the South, premiered at Tribeca Film Festival 2020 and won the Best Documentary Award.
