Siegfried Sassoon, a fighter in the First World War, a fierce critic of his government's attitude towards the conflict, a star of the most illustrious social circles, ruled by privilege and plasure, and a homosexual in eternal struggle with his condition, is the protagonist of this lyrical and powerful biopic. Terence Davies has an empathic and yet moving portrait of Sassoon, a public figure of undoubted importance and a man in constant conflict with the principles of a hypocritical and cynical, fascinating and cruel society, capable of overwhelming even the noblest of its members.
