La Faraona is the first Italian documentary entirely dedicated to Mario Mieli. Among the many founding fathers of the Italian LGBTQI+ movement, he was the most eccentric, intellectual and irreverent. The documentary reconstructs the stages of Mieli's life with a queer eye, thanks to the testimonies of his closest friends and some selected archive materials, collected in the making of the movie Bitter Years by Andrea Adriatico, and gives access both to the public and to the unpublished private life. La Faraona makes us miss Mario Mieli, one of the most avant-garde activists in our community, more than ever.

Biography

Collettiva +

The narrative path, in La Faraona, happens by subtraction, giving the audience materials that are "raw" and "dirty", even if they're tied together in a logical and chronological way following Stefano Casi's (who is Bitter Years's co-writer and one of Mieli's early scholars) screenplay: the aim is to enrich the knowledge about Mario Mieli as an intellectual, artist and activist and, through his personality, to inform the audience about the 70's gay movement within the cultural and social background of those times.
