In the Italian region of Calabria after World War II, where time stands still, two solitary people meet: Marta, a teenage mother whose husband died during the war, now doomed to be forced into another marriage, and Lorenzo, the homosexual warden of the local church. These are two emancipation stories, where the bond between the two characters is as strong as their wish for freedom and for revenge on their oppressors’ prejudices and rules. A painful tale of emancipation, presented at the 2023 Bif&st Festival and awarded prizes for Best Director and Best Leading Actress.

Cristiano Bortone
Cristiano Bortone was born in 1968 in Rome and, after graduating from high school, he moved to the United States to study at the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California. In 1991 he graduated in Film and Television studies from New York University. He has directed many feature films, such as Oasi (1994), Sono positivo (2000), L’erba proibita (2002), Red like the sky (Rosso come il cielo), for which he won the David Giovani prize at the 2007 David di Donatello awards, 10 regole per fare innamorare (2012), and Caffè (2016).
Daniela Porto
In 2003 Daniela Porto graduated in Arts, Music and Drama from the University of Rome. In 2005 she began her collaboration with Orisa Productions as a publishing and production manager. She made her debut as a writer with the novel My place Is Here, based on the film co-directed by herself and Cristiano Bartone.
