LA VIE D'ADÈLE

There is a before and after of Blue Is the Warmest Colour, the coming-of-age film par excellence by Abdellatif Kechiche. It won its stars the Palme d’Or for best film at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013, where their acting was considered equal to Kechiche’s directing prowess. It drew radically different opinions from critics and audiences, taking on the role of collective experience. It was boycotted by the lesbian community, praised by some critics, considered to express the epitome of the male gaze, by objectifying the two protagonists and their intimacy. But the author’s intention, stated in the French title, still stands: The Life of ... Not ours.
