It took Jennie Livingston six years to capture the spirit of New York ballroom culture and enable the world to get to know it. The rules, the slang, the protagonists of one of the most transgressive and innovative scenes of the 1980s told through the words of the flamboyant queens. They also bring us into their daily lives, far from the glitter: racism, homophobia, poverty, crime and AIDS. This document has a historical value, celebrating its 35th anniversary and showing the uniting and subversive force of a community born out of necessity and marginalization. Featuring Venus Extravaganza, whose tragic death is the subject of I'm Your Venus.
