What does it mean to be Israelis, Jews and non-Zionist, all while living in Germany? This challenging documentary, presented after a long period of preparation at the last IFFR Rotterdam, tries to answer this question. In order to consider identity and politics, the documentary follows the journey of Israeli exiles, who courageously show every aspect of their life, mental and physical – because nothing reveals a nation’s subconscious like sex does. So in progressive Berlin we see sexual interactions that reveal disturbing ghosts, obsessions, and fetishisms. With justifiable anger and lots of humor, The New Jews deals with controversial, crucial topics.
