THE SECRET OF ME
by Grace Hughes-Hallett
Country: UK
Year: 2024
Duration: 96'
Jim is a man in his mid-40s, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He looks very vulnerable in front of the camera while holding in his hand a picture of a blond teenage girl, Kristi. This is because he was born intersex and was Kristi. Or, rather, he was raised as Kristi… Without unnecessary sensationalism, director Grace Huges-Hallett recounts a chilling, painful story. She reveals a disturbing psychological experiment that, in the 1960s, led to serious medical (and other) intervention in the lives of many intersex people, with the approval of families and the complicity of institutions.
