After several years abroad, a filmmaker goes back to his hometown, which has been through a difficult phase of deep political uncertainty and economic crisis, to deal with the sense of rejection he experienced as a queer person. This documentary digs deep into homophobia to unveil the spaces of belonging, and it does so through meeting with locals and observing all the many facets of everyday life, while at the same time making us fall in love with this tormented Lebanese city.

Raed El Rafei

Raed Rafei is a filmmaker, researcher and journalist, and has directed award-winning documentaries and experimental films in which he chronicles queer communities in Arabic-speaking countries and their diasporas. Among them 74 (The Reconstitution of a Struggle) (2012), Here I Am ... Here You Are (2016) have been screened at international film festivals and at the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Pacific Film Archives in Berkeley. The latest, Tripoli/ A Tale of Three Cities (2024), was presented at the IDFA in Amsterdam.
