REAL LOVERS
LA FACE CACHÉE DE LA TERRE
THE HIDDEN FACE OF THE EARTH
by Arnaud Alain
Dimitri is gradually and irreversibly losing his sight. Having always approached images through photography, taking pictures has become for him an even more urgent necessity: a way of preserving what he will soon no longer be able to see. The camera lens literally replaces Dimitri’s eye, and the documentary becomes a silent witness to this symbiotic and paradoxical relationship. It follows him into the dark, which reflects his inner state and keeps him company during his night walks in Paris and New York, and into the light, where he enlarges his photographs so he can see them again and meets friends and lovers who might give him back a sense of hope. This powerful film courageously confronts despair and poses an uncomfortable question: how does belonging to the LGBTQI+ community interact with disability?
