Light and shadow — captured in black and white — define the lives of three contemporary Uruguayan couples as they confront the inevitable choices and dilemmas that age and society impose: how to navigate through life without causing too much damage, balancing career, the desire to become parents, and the need for a free, uncompromising sexuality. A sharp and witty comedy that, with shades of Woody Allen and Robert Altman’s ensemble cinema, portrays the clashes, selfishness, and baser impulses — as well as the deepest and most intimate emotions — of South America’s middle class. Amidst ambitions for success, intellectual aspirations, and artistic impulses — often fleeting — a comédie humaine unfolds, marked by neuroses and small cruelties. Highly acclaimed in its home country, it forms one of the three chapters that LFF dedicates to an in‑depth exploration of Uruguayan cinema.

Marcela Matta
Marcela Matta is a Uruguayan producer, director, and screenwriter. Since 2006, she has been a member of the Honorary Board of Directors of the Cinemateca Uruguaya. From 2002 to 2015, she worked as a producer for the public broadcaster Tevé Ciudad. She also co-wrote, co-directed, and edited her first feature film, Los modernos (2016), together with Mauro Sarser. Their collaboration continued on other projects, such as Muerto con Gloria (2021).
Mauro Sarser
Mauro Sarser is an Uruguayan producer, editor, and actor. After graduating from the Escuela de Cine del Uruguay in 2004, he has worked continuously in the media industry. His work includes collaborations with Marcela Matta, notably the feature films Los modernos (2016) and Muerto con Gloria (2021). Sarser has also directed music videos and, in 2014, contributed as editor to the TV show Boliches.
