A beach house, the shoreline, the height of summer — this is the world in which Emma and Nina move. Two best friends on the cusp of their twenties: one is friendly and light-hearted, the other more introvert and restrained. The days spent by the sea alternate with the nights spent out clubbing, and the sheltered intimacy of their hortus conclusus — which isolates them from the world and is dominated by their relationship — dissolves into the alcoholic excitement of their nights out. Although the bond between them evolves in new directions, the outside world still finds its way into their lives: Emma meets Gonzalo, a film student of her age, and introduces him to Nina, who is rather reluctant to let him into the routine they’ve built. This new arrival breaks the balance, seemingly solid but never fully defined, between the two friends. But is this just temporary, or is everything about to change?

Mercedes Cosco
Born in 1995 in Montevideo, Uruguay, Mercedes Cosco has a degree in Audiovisual Communication. In 2023, she premiered her first feature film as director and screenwriter, Nina & Emma, at the 41st Film Festival of Uruguay and, in 2024, it was part of the official selection at the Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema (BAFICI). Besides cinema, Cosco also focuses on photography, works as an author for editorial and musical projects and is co‑founder of the publishing house Recuerdos Humanos.
