SIEMPRE VUELVEN
KEEP COMING BACK
by Sergio De León
Emilio, 18, is not ready: not for his mother’s death, not for the unusual inheritance left to him — one that feels more like a curse — nor for the desires and feelings beginning to surface within him, which he knows he must confront. Around him, and around the dove loft where he starts working after his recent loss, a small constellation of characters revolves, their lives crossing like a flock of doves in flight. Each of them is searching for something: Juan, solitary and reserved, for poetry in life; Muchacho de Pelo Largo, young but already seasoned, for friendship; and Georgina, a mother and a sister, for the balance she longs for. A dreamy, poetic coming-of-age tale in which the film’s emotional core is Emilio’s dove loft, a place that becomes deeply symbolic, and to which, as the title suggests, everyone returns sooner or later.
