IL DECAMERON

THE DECAMERON
by Pier Paolo Pasolini
Country: Italy
Year: 1971
Duration: 111'

Nine short stories and a frame, in which the director himself carves out the role of a pupil of Giotto, which bring the vital and mocking, foul-mouthed and promiscuous Middle Ages of the Boccaccio anthology to the big screen. An exuberant and evocative fresco, which looks to fourteenth-century painting and beyond, in which embraces and death, excrement and religion are intertwined, with grotesque and playful results. The first chapter of the "Trilogy of Life", winner of the Silver Bear at the 1971 Berlinale, denounced and tried, was a huge success at the box office and was the progenitor of the so-called decamerotic vein.
