OPENING – 37° Lovers Film Festival

Tuesday, April 26 marks the official start of the 37thedition of the Lovers Film Festival, the oldest festival about LGBTIQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersexual, and queer) topics, which willtake place from April 26 to May 1, 2022at the Cinema Massimo, the multiplex of the National Cinema Museum of Turin.

On Tuesday evening, at the Mole Antonelliana, film icon Barbara Bouchet, the patroness of the 2022 edition, will inaugurate the festival as she dialogues with Vladimir Luxuria in an all around conversationabout her 60+ year career. Plus an appearance by Karma B., the famous duo of drag queens and performers who will be present every day at Lovers.

The opening evening will continue at the Cinema Massimo (9 p.m., Sala Cabiria) with two screenings: the short Applausi(ITALY, 2021, 2’) byAlex D’Antona and Fabiano Tagarelli, and the feature-lengthIn from the Side(UK, 2022, 134’) by Matt Carter. The movie is about the world of gay rugby, seen from the inside: strength, beauty, affection, and the adventures of two rugby players who break the most important rule: don’t fall in love with a teammate. Fatigue, sweat, and mud blend with the passion of the two lovers and their personal and locker room problems. Magnetic performances and a direction that pays close attention to the realism of the sport. Heavy drinking and crude jokes are part of this scene but these massive athletes also show their vulnerable side. You might not love rugby but you can’t help loving these men.

The directors ofApplausi andIn from the Side will attend the screenings.

With the participation of the patroness Barbara Bouchet,ConiglioViola, festival directorVladimir Luxuria, and the disturbers Karma B.
